Before Mouth Culture took the stage, Beauty School brought a rush of energy and emotion that immediately grabbed the room. The six-piece from Bristol have a sound that’s hard to pin down, emo at its heart, but threaded through with alt-rock grit and indie warmth. It’s big, heartfelt music built on feeling, and live, it hits even harder.
Fronted by Joe Cabrera, Beauty School have a knack for turning emotional weight into something anthemic. You can hear it in the way the guitars swell, the drums punch, and the lyrics land like confessions shouted into the night. Their songs sit somewhere between introspection and release, music for people who want to feel something real without overthinking it.
Formed from members of different Leeds bands who wanted a fresh start, Beauty School quickly found their sound, melodic, tight, and full of life. Their debut album, released through Slam Dunk Records in 2022, captured that spark perfectly, but on stage, it’s something else entirely. The band’s chemistry is obvious; every glance and grin between members feels like shared history, like a group that’s been through the highs and lows together and come out stronger.
At The Garage, they played with a confidence that instantly filled the room. Joe’s vocals were raw but melodic, carrying that perfect mix of polish and passion, while the band behind him built layers of sound that never felt crowded. There were moments of soaring chorus that had the crowd swaying, followed by punchy, high-energy bursts that pulled everyone closer to the stage.
Beauty School might have been the support act, but they played with the heart and presence of a headliner. There’s something special about watching a band completely in sync, pouring themselves into every song, and leaving the room a little fuller than when they walked in.
