Nestled in the vibrant music scene of Norwich, alt‑rock outfit Chicanes have been quietly forging a reputation with their raw and emotionally charged sound. All members, coming from Norwich, the four-piece from the UK’s East Anglia region began attracting attention with gritty riffs and lyrical bite.

With Andrew Lewis as lead vocalist and on the bass, backed up by Travis Fitt and Matt Seabrook on guitars, it makes a perfect trio of sound. Then the beating heart, Jim Wilson on drums, and you have the perfect overall team to make a sound that is something special.

Their performances at Norwich hotspots—including appearances at Norwich Rock Fest in 2023 and earlier headline gigs—cemented them as a live act to watch.

Speaking with Travis about the band, he says “All of us have grown up in and around Norwich and have always had a passion for music. Going to see local bands, checking out independent venues and meeting some of the amazing people in this community really opened our eyes to just how special it is. Being just a small part of that is a real privilege and is something we’re always grateful for”

This summer, Chicanes have took a massive leap forward with their debut album Something Beautiful, produced by the acclaimed and 2x Grammy award winning Adrian Bushby (noted for his work with Foo Fighters and Muse). The three songs that have been released so far off the album, “Mammoth”, “Slow Death” and “Fray” shows a band unafraid to explore heavy emotional terrain. Throughout the album, the soft lyrics get you in the chest and then the heavy rock blows your mind, making this a mixture of both, heartfelt and angst.

On a hot and sweaty night in Norwich, Voodoo Daddy’s Showroom was the venue for the guys album launch party, 20th June 2025,  one week after the release of “Something Beautiful”.

With support from Fleas and AJQJ, it was already sounding like a good night.

The support bands amped up the crowd, AKQJ, with their pop punk and indie vibe. Then Fleas taking the stage with their loud sound and energetic stage presence. The whole room were ready for the main performance.

As soon as Chicanes set foot on the stage, they burst into the opener of the new album. “Livid” filled the room and set the tone for the rest of the set, the dirty guitar sound, the drums building, everyone was ready to be blown away.

The set list was a complete run through of the new album, with older songs chucked in, like “Come Around”, “Honey” and a massive fan favourite “Greedy” which has the crowd dancing and bouncing about enthusiastically.

Stand out songs from the album, “Neon Dreams”, “Not Enough” (that bass guitar start by Andrew hits your chest), and “Live Well” were definitely highlights of the night. Hearing them live was an amazing experience that put even more rawness on the tracks.

Halfway through the set, things slowed down with the beautiful sound of “Stone”, the more placid song off the album.

Speaking with Andrew, he said “This song was inspired by one of my favourite bands, Sleep Token, and I think having this different mellow sound on the album was great to break up the heaviness of the other tracks”.

When the set was supposed to finish, with the title track “Something Beautiful” ending, the crowd still wanted more. The curfew for the venue was coming up fast but the guys burst into “What’s your Beef, Mate” and there was a roar of cheers, ending this hot night on a hot favourite.

In joining rock‑infused heaviness with beautiful atmospheric lyrics, Chicanes are crafting an identity that feels both familiar but also new, paving the way for the next chapter for a group ready to leave an indelible mark—on and off stage. This album is their gateway to bigger things.
